Towards the Next Generation Intelligent BPM —— In the Era of Big Data

Big data opens a new dimension, space, to o er the advantage of gleaning intelligence from data and translating that into business benefits. It will lead to knowledge revolution in all sectors, including Business Process Management (BPM). This paper sheds light on key characteristics of intelligent BPM (iBPM) from an industrial point of view. A big data perspective on iBPM is then proposed, showing the challenges and potential opportunities in attempt to catalyze idea from insight to application. China Mobile Communications Corporation (CMCC)’s exploring and practice are provided, which also elicit the future research directions for enterprise applications.

About the presenter
Xiang Gao graduated from the Telecommunications Engineering Department of Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications in 1982, and received the master’s degree in Information Management from BI Norwegian Business School in 1999 and the doctor’s degree of Business Administration from Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2005. Now he is a professor-level senior engineer and has extensive experience in IT management, operations and technologies.
Dr. Gao is the general manager of Management Information System Department, China Mobile Communications Corporation. He is the Guest Professor of Fudan University and Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, and the Executive Member of the council of China Information Industry Trade Association (CIITA). Dr. Gao formerly served as the Chief Engineer of China Mobile Group Liaoning Co., Ltd. and the General Manager of the Enterprise Corporation Dept. of CMCC.
Dr. Gao’s current research interests fall in the general areas of business intelligent, social network analysis, business process management and cloud computing. He owns several patents in information technologies and telecommunications and has been in charge of several large-scale IT research and implementation projects. Dr. Gao has been continuously elected as a Distinguished Lecturer for invited keynote speaking on the annual CIO conferences organized by State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC) from 2006 to 2012. He has also served as a Program Committee Chair of the 2nd International Conference on Advanced Computer Control (ICACC 2010).
